You may remember Bluebrain from their innovative location-aware album-apps, The National Mall and Listen to the Light which were made specifically for areas of DC and New York, respectively. Now the band has developed another album for those of you heading to Austin’s SXSW festival this week with their latest release, The Violet Crown. Bluebrain has specialized in creating albums that are only accessible within specified geographic areas; the band allows the environment to trigger what sounds the listener is granted access to, so as you move, the album reacts.

The Vimeo at top is an enlightening behind-the-scenes short film that documents the making of Listen to the Light.

The app is made for both the iPhone and the iPad and is available for free at the App Store. To learn more about Bluebrain, check out their official website at
