Clash Magazine / New Order cover designs

Creative Review has a nice piece on designer Howard Wakefield’s recent cover design
for music magazine, Clash, celebrating 30 years of New Order. Mr. Wakefield has worked on music packaging for bands like Goldie, Joy Division and New Order, and spent much
of his early career working with Peter Saville over at Pentagram – he now serves as Creative Director for design firm Parris Wakefield out of England. The thought process behind this magazine cover is quite interesting – Howard wanted to reinterpret 30 years of New Order album covers by reducing their designs to their “basic colour elements.” The resulting block/pixel pattern creates an interesting mosaic that speaks to the simplicity of many of the New Order covers.
